Davide completed his PhD in 2013 at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden with Mats Wahlgren where he studied virulence mechanisms in P. falciparum malaria. He then joined the laboratory of Jon Yewdell at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), NIH in Bethesda, USA as a postdoctoral fellow where he elucidated basic rules of antibody and B cell immunodominance to Influenza A virus. He joined the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Gothenburg as an assistant professor in summer 2018 and was promoted to Professor in 2025.
